Thanks for Cupcake creativity

Preparing for Thanksgiving can be hectic, especially for cooks. This year, why not get the kids involved. Your neighborhood bakeries are always full of creative ideas, and Thanksgiving is no different. With some of these awesome cupcake ideas for a Thanksgiving treat, your kids will want to be directly involved in preparing the Thanksgiving meal, as they are in eating!

While synthesize desserts for Thanksgiving, keep in mind that desserts are meant to be fun. There is no need to stick with the elegance and the refinery when wrapping up a huge dinner or lunch. Leaving children to engage in desserts can make the holidays a bit more special and give them a real sense of creativity.

So try these three Thanksgiving cupcakes as a finisher for the Thanksgiving dinner:

Turkey Candy corn Cupcakes

These are simple to cook and so much fun to decorate! Just whip up some chocolate cupcakes, top them with some fudge frosting, and then use Candy corn pieces for the tail feathers and beaks. For their eyes, you can probably find decorative sugar bits on your favorite local bakery, or perhaps even to use miniature marshmallows. This is a huge blow for children due to the variety of sweets in a single dessert!

Turkey Cupcakes (Nutter Butter)

This is another simple set-up that your kids will love to help with. Again, we start with a traditional chocolate cupcake with chocolate icing. You can even take some chocolate sprinkles on them to give the appearance of feathers ruffled. Then stick a cookie Nutterbutter vertically near the front of the cupcake. Use white frosting for the eyes and fruit rollup stripes on the wings and a beard. These look so cute that you may not want to eat them!

Cherry Pie Cupcakes

These are fun to make and downright delicious. Start with baking cupcakes with vanilla frosting a lot. Those with a layer of buttercream icing homepage and then use actual cherry pie filling to cover this. Using vanilla icing, create a lattice pattern on top of the filling of the cherry. The final result should look like a mini cherry pie. You might want to do a lot, as these tend to be a wonderful crowd favorite.

Fun with Americana Nostalgia at Towne (Downtown LA)

It isn't often I walk into a new restaurant with no expectation and come out wowed. That happened recently to me at the new Towne in downtown LA. I didn't know much about it coming into the media tasting other than that they make their own twinkies, but left pretty impressed. Towne is a large elegant restaurant in the WaterMarke Tower in the South Park district of downtown LA. The bar to the left and the pastry case near the entrance is Bottega Louie-esque, without the high ceilings and the loudness (at least so far).

The warm pretzel bread, complimentary for the table, served with mustard butter made a great first impression.

We started with some appetizers including the Kanpachi Tacos, avocado, hijiki, aji amarillo, creme fraiche ($12)

While you can't see if at first glance, the crispy shells were filled with chunks of fresh kanpachi.

The head barman here is Jason Bran, who has designed a cocktail menu ranging from little twists of some classics to some fun, completely out-there cocktails. More on that later, as we first started on the tamer side with Eastern Mule: Russian Standard Vodka, lime, house 5-spice ginger beer ($13).

The hint of the spices were subtle but unmistakable.

Another nice refreshing classic: Genesis Collins with Beefeater 24 gin, grapefruit, honey, soda, "invisible touch" ($13) - not sure what the invisible touch was..

Chicken Liver Popcorn, yogurt, zatar ($11)

If you like chicken liver and pates, you would certainly love these deep fried goodness (one of the other bloggers at the table just could not stop eating them)!
On the other hand, if you don't like the taste of liver, avoid this. Just because they're deep fried doesn't mean they've lost that liver taste!
