How do you choose a book to read? In all honesty I chose this one based on the title of his last one - The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. I love anyone who quotes Sherlock Holmes almost as much as I love anyone who quotes Leonard Cohen.

And since The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time was such a huge hit and fan-favourite, I was excited about The Red House. I wasn't disappointed. Mark Haddon has such a unique gift for story-telling.
Dreamy and engaging at the same time, his part poetic, part stream of consciousness, incredibly insightful portrayal of characters and situations is refreshing, intriguing and absolutely wonderful.

The Red House is about family. Some close, some distant, some new, all with their own hopes and fears and secrets. They share a summer rental for seven days in the English countryside, eight people struggling with their own identities and place in the world.

The Red House is a beautiful, insightful work and not to be missed.
